Should oak doors be finished before hanging?
They must be sealed on all six faces, including the top and bottom edges, or they will take on moisture and move. We finish them after trimming so the cut edges are sealed too.
Are oak doors heavy enough to need special hinges?
Yes, solid and engineered oak doors need three good-quality hinges, and we fit ball-bearing hinges as standard so they swing smoothly for years.
Can you replace the frames to match?
Yes. New oak-veneered linings and architraves make the biggest difference to the finished look and are usually worth the extra when you are doing the whole house.
